England all-rounder Moeen Ali had a field day in the IPL 2021 Auction after the Chennai Super Kings loosened their purse and bought him for a staggering INR 7 crores. Moeen Ali, who returned back to England after playing in the second Test against India at Chennai, was ecstatic with the news.

33-year-old Moeen Ali had previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore with some distinction, but never got a long rope and consistent chances owing to them struggling with team combinations. In 19 matches, Ali has 309 runs with three fifties to his name and has taken 10 wickets with a best of 2/18.

This Has Made My Day And Year: Moeen Ali Says After CSK Buys Him In IPL 2021 Auction

Reacting to the news of being bought by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021 Auction, Moeen Ali reckoned that the news has made his “day and year”. He was also stoked to play under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, something that most of the players in the world look to do.

“Absolutely buzzing to play for CSK this year. Amazing to be playing under MS, something which most cricketers look forward to do. Its made my day and year,” Moeen Ali said.

Chennai Super Kings had battled hard in the IPL 2021 auction with Royal Challengers Bangalore to buy Glenn Maxwell before Moeen Ali’s name came up in the auction. However, RCB’s deeper purse led to them winning that bid and bought Maxwell for a whopping INR 14.25 Crores.

However, when Moeen Ali’s name came up, Chennai Super Kings were not going to stand down, as they wanted an off-spinner after they had released Harbhajan Singh before the auction. They successfully warded off bids from other teams and welcomed the England all-rounder in the Yellow Army.

Chennai Super Kings also bought K Gowtham for INR 9.25 crores, Cheteshwar Pujara for INR 50 lakhs, apart from getting Moeen Ali to bolster their lineup. This also gives them depth in their batting with Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran being the other all-rounders in the squad.
