Former India opener Gautam Gambhir said the franchise which had the best outing in the recent IPL 2021 auction, was the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The franchise only brought three players in the auction, but the former opener thinks they did the best buying.

Chennai Super Kings had only 5 spots to fill in the auction, especially looking for replacements for Shane Watson and Harbhajan Singh. They did amazingly well in both departments buying Moeen Ali for Rs 7 crores and Krishnappa Gowtham for Rs 9.25 Crores to cover both areas.

In addition to them, CSK also successfully bid for Cheteshwar Pujara (Rs 50 lakhs), marking the return of Saurashtra batsman into the IPL fold for the first time since 2014.

For Me, This Is The Best Auction That CSK Have Had- Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir felt that the addition of Moeen Ali and Krishnappa Gowtham adds value to the CSK franchise and the players can actually perform well and win matches for the team in the upcoming IPL 2021. He said that they were practical buys.

“Very much, I think this is their (CSK) auction. They initially went really hard for Glenn Maxwell, but later in that same price, they have got K Gowtham and Moeen Ali. So when you can get two players at the price of one.

I know people may say that they have only bought 3 players till now, but for me, this is the best auction that CSK has had. Yes, there are some massive buys from RCB and Punjab Kings, but what CSK wanted, they got it, and that’s what auctions are all about.

It is not about paying huge money, but about picking who you think can add value to your squad. Both Moeen and Gowtham can deliver and actually win them the tournament as well. Both are great options for CSK,” said Gambhir on Star Sports.

CSK Had Better Auction As Compared To Other Sides: Gautam Gambhir

The former Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain felt that after having the worst season in IPL 2020, many thought that the Chennai Super Kings needed a big revamp of their team. But they only bought 3 players and were content with their buys and planning.

“Where is the revamp? Probably other teams needed to have more revamp than the CSK. It was the worst season they had, as everyone was talking about because they couldn’t qualify for the playoffs. But they go into the auction and buy 3 players, and sit happily, in what I think is the best auction they have had till now, as compared to the other side. This is how you build a side, this is how you build a legacy over a long period of time,” Gambhir told on Star Sports.

Apart from these three players, CSK also added three uncapped players in K Bhagath Varma, C Hari Nishaanth, and M Harisankar Reddy for Rs 20 lakh each.
