Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh was released before the IPL 2021 auction by Chennai Super Kings. He had been with the franchise since 2018 and had won the tournament with CSK that year. However, he decided to opt-out of the IPL 2020 in UAE due to personal reasons.

Harbhajan Singh last played an international match in 2015 and has not played any domestic cricket or competitive cricket for a long time and it was not expected that he might receive any bid in the IPL 2021 auction, especially at his base price of Rs 2 crore.
