Australia opener David Warner decided to take the mickey out of his fellow teammate Glenn Maxwell over his record IPL 2021 deal. The all-rounder fetched a massive bid of Rs 14.25 Cr by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recent IPL 2021 auction.
Maxwell was previously bought for Rs. 10.75 cr by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020 auction. His performance was severely poor as he managed just 108 runs in the tournament which was played in UAE and couldn’t manage a single six in the entire tournament.
It’s Surprising- David Warner On Glenn Maxwell Getting Higher Bids Every Subsequent IPL Auction
Many thought he would not receive a huge amount in the bid, but it happened again as Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore got into a bidding war about Glenn Maxwell, which RCB finally won with a massive bid after CSK pulled out due to budget constraints.
His national teammate David Warner was commentating during the first T20I between Australia and New Zealand of which Glenn Maxwell is a part. The first of the five-match series was played at Christchurch and New Zealand won the match by 53 runs, after making 184/5 and restricting Australia to 131.
During the match, Warner and Mark Waugh were discussing the IPL 2021 auction. When Warner said that the amount of money that Maxwell got was very good, to which Waugh said that especially considering his performance in the last IPL season.
“It’s surprising, you get let go from your franchise and you get a lot more after being released,” Warner added.
Meanwhile in the first T20I of the five-match series, batting first, New Zealand found itself in the problem at 19/3, but Devon Conway slammed 99* in 59 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Glenn Philips (30) and James Neesham (26) also helped Conway in taking the Black Caps to 184/5.
In reply, Mitchell Marsh (45) and Ashton Agar (23) were the only ones to cross 20 runs in Australia innings, as Ish Sodhi’s 4/28 and two wickets each from Tim Southee and Trent Boult kept the visitors to 131 and won the match by 53 runs.
