The craze for IPL 2021 begins on April 9, 2021 with the first match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. IPL 2021 returns to India after a gap of nearly two years. Last year, the tournament was played in UAE due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, the tournament will be played at 6 venues across the country. IPL 2021 will observe 8 teams playing a total of 60 matches among themselves for the trophy.

Mumbai Indians are the defending champions of IPL 2021. Last year in IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians won the trophy after defeating Delhi Capitals in the final. Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab was the first game in IPL 2020 that ended in a tie. While batting first, Delhi Capitals’ top order totally failed to perform. At 13-3, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant handled the batting for Delhi Capitals. Iyer scored 39 while Pant scored 31. Later, Marcus Stoinis smashed an incredible fifty (53) off 21 balls, which took Delhi Capitals to 157-8 in 20 overs. Batting second, Mayank Agarwal scored 89 runs for Kings XI Punjab. However, on the final ball, Agarwal needed to score 1 run for victory. He was caught out on Marcus Stoinis’ delivery and the match went to the super over.

Kagiso Rabada bowled the super over for Delhi Capitals. He dismissed KL Rahul on the 2nd ball and bowled Nicholas Pooran on the 3rd ball. With just 3 runs to win, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came out to bat for Delhi Capitals. Pant managed to score the winning runs in just 2 balls and Delhi Capitals won the match in the end.

Royal Challengers batted first in the match and scored 201-3. Devdutt Padikkal (54), Aaron Finch (52), and AB de Villiers (55) scored half-centuries to take RCB to a big total. Shivam Dube also played a quick-fire knock of 27 runs off 10 balls in the end. While chasing, Ishant Kishan scored 99 runs for Mumbai Indians while Kieron Pollard scored 60 runs off 24 balls. On the final ball, Mumbai Indians needed 5 runs to win and Pollard hit a boundary to tie the match.

In the super over, Navdeep Saini bowled a brilliant over for Royal Challengers Bangalore, giving just 6 runs and taking 1 wicket. Jasprit Bumrah also bowled a great over for Mumbai Indians. On the final ball, Bangalore needed 1 run to win. Virat Kohli played a great shot at the square leg which went to the boundary. Hence, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match in the super over.

Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab match in IPL 2020 is the only match in Indian Premier League so far that witnessed two super overs. Mumbai Indians batted first in the match and put up 176-6 on the scoreboard. Quinton de Kock scored 53 runs while Kieron Pollard hit 34 runs off 12 balls.

Chasing 177 to win, KL Rahul played a spectacular knock of 77 runs for Kings XI Punjab. Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran scored 24 runs each. In the end, Punjab needed 2 runs to win off the final ball, but they can only grab one run as Chris Jordon got out on the 2nd run. The match ended in a tie and went to the super over.

In the first super over, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul while giving away 5 runs. For Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock came out to bat. KXIP’s Mohammad Shami also bowled a fantastic super over and gave only 5 runs. As a result, the super over too ended in a tie and the game went to the 2nd super over.

Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya came out to bat for Mumbai Indians in the 2nd super over. Chris Jordon, who bowled the 2nd super for Punjab Kings, gave away 9 runs. Trent Boult bowled the 2nd super over for Mumbai Indians. Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal took the crease this time. Gayle smashed a six off the first ball while Agarwal hit two boundaries later to win the match for Kings XI Punjab.
