IPL has turned out to be a major success for its parent body. The tournament has seen plenty of international footfall and sponsorship which not only made it successful but also lucrative over the years. However, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal believes media has to change its stance on how IPL is being called a ‘money-making’ tournament as it also benefits the nation in a lot of ways.

Arun Dhumal said that the money made in IPL goes to the players and not to any board members. He also said that the travel and tourism industry have been benefited with the profit IPL is making. Besides that, Dhumal also pointed out the money paid in taxes is used for nation building and does not goes to the pocket of Sourav Ganguly or Jay Shah.

“This whole talk that IPL is a money-making machine, so be it. Who takes that money? That money goes to the players, that money doesn’t go to any office bearers. That money goes to the welfare of the nation, the travel and tourism industry, in terms of industries being revived, in terms of taxes being paid,” BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal told Cricbuzz.

“So why opposition for the money? Money is paid to the players and all those people who are there to organise the tournament. Media has to change the stance and tell about the benefit of this tournament that is happening

“If BCCI is paying thousands of crores in taxes, it is going in nation-building, it is not going to Mr. Sourav Ganguly or Mr. Jay Shah or myself. Right? So you should be happy if money is being made rather than money being spent on sports,” he added.

As per the original schedule, IPL 2020 was  to begin from March 29 but it was first deferred to April 15 before being postponed indefinitely as the parent body has been stubborn on their wait and watch policy.

More so, because, the cricket board might incur a loss of Rs. 4000 crore if the lucrative tournament. The cricket board CEO Raul Johri had said that the lucrative tournament can take place after monsoon with international stars.
