Sunrisers Hyderabad’s new player Rahul Tripathi opened up on the tough times during the IPL 2021 final when he pulled his hamstring and also revealed the consoling words from MS Dhoni which helped him get through the difficult phase.

Tripathi had played a stunning knock for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eliminator against Delhi Capitals (DC), including a winning six that took KKR into the final. However, while playing in the final against CSK, Tripathi ended up pulling his hamstring and he had to walk back after scoring two runs.

It was an incredibly bitter pill to swallow for Tripathi but he received some consolation from none other than the opposition captain, Dhoni.

I had a hamstring injury and therefore, I came in lower down the order. I couldn’t score runs, I was really struggling to run between the wickets.

“After I got out, Mahi bhai tapped on my back and said: “Koi nai, aj tumhara day nahi tha, But tune hundred percent try kiya”(It wasn’t your day, but you gave your hundred percent). I was feeling very down since we lost the final, but Mahi bhai came after the game also and spoke to me for a minute or so,” Tripathi told News18 Cricketnext in an exclusive interview.

“New challenge and new opportunity for me” – Rahul Tripathi after joining SRH

SRH shelled out a huge amount of INR 8.5 crores for Tripathi, knowing what the top-order batter is capable of. His naturally aggressive playstyle would fit in anywhere and the 30-year-old expressed happiness in being given a new challenge.

I had a great experience at KKR. So, I was looking to… theek hai chalo, if I go back (to KKR), I know everything, and the mega auction is such that you go to new teams and I am very happy to come to SRH.”

Obviously, ap jab khelte ho, to apke emotions jud jaate hai (when you play for a side, you get attached), definitely, I had some emotions attached to (KKR). But, it’s a new challenge and it’s a new opportunity for me also,” Tripathi added.
