On this day, Indian pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made his first appearance in IPL eight years ago. Jasprit Bumrah, who played his first IPL game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, proved to be the pick of the bowlers as he snared three wickets. The right-arm paceman took to his official Twitter handle and reflected on his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians.

Even though Mumbai Indians could not win the game, Jasprit Bumrah’s debut was a stellar one as he dismissed Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal, and Karun Nair, finishing with figures of 4-0-32-3. The 27-year old’s efforts to restrict the Royal Challengers to a modest 156 went in vain as Mumbai Indians fell two runs short of chasing it.

Bumrah played only two matches that year and took three wickets. After that season, he began receiving fairly regular opportunities; however, the 2015 edition proved to be a nightmare one for Bumrah. The 27-year old featured in four fixtures, snaring three scalps at an awful average of 61.33. But like the year 2013, it did not stop Mumbai Indians from lifting the trophy for the second time.

And fast forward to the present, Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as a fast-bowling genius. The Ahmedabad-born cricketer has taken 109 wickets in 92 matches at 23.73. He played a crucial role in Mumbai Indians’ last three title victories, taking 20, 19, and 27 wickets in those. Bumrah also earned the man of the match award in the 2019 final against the Chennai Super Kings, ending with 4-0-14-2, removing Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo. Bumrah, who recently tied the knot, remarked that it’s hard to believe that his debut occasion was eight years ago and he cannot wait to be out there again.
