Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will not be able to buy star Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan in the auction instead they will go after former Mumbai Indians (MI) leg-spinner Rahul Chahar at the auction table.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were having a lot of players whom they could have retained ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auctions. Notably, The teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players and Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to retain only three.
The first player retained by RCB was former skipper Virat Kohli for 15 crores, the second retention was Australian Glenn Maxwell for 11 crores and the third was pacer Mohammed Siraj for 7 crores. Their remaining purse value stands at INR 57 crore.
Notably, they didn’t retain Chahal who is the leading wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. So far Chahal has played 112 IPL innings and has picked 139 wickets at 22.2. Overall he is the 9th highest wicket-taker in IPL.
They Will Break The Bank For Rahul Chahar – Aakash Chopra
Speaking on YouTube channel Chopra said RCB wants a leg spinner in the team because at the Chinnaswamy stadium no other spinners perform well. He mentioned that Ravi Bishnoi and Chahar are the options available and RCB will break their bank for the former Mumbai Indians spinner Rahul Chahar.
Chopra added that Yuzvendra Chahal might not go to the auction as he might be picked by one of the two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
“RCB will not get Rashid, they can forget about that. Instead, they will go after Rahul Chahar, big time. No spinners apart from leg spinners work at the Chinnaswamy stadium. He also bowls a lot quicker in the air.
“Ravi Bishnoi is also an option, but I’m thinking Rahul Chahar. They will break the bank for him. Chahal might not make it to the auctions,” Chopra said during a Q & A session on his YouTube channel.
