Chennai Super Kings veteran batter Suresh Raina is likely to be dropped from the team in the next season.

The IPL 2022 will see most of the players go under the auctions table as BCCI has planned a mega auction where each team will be able to retain a maximum of three players.

CSK seems unlikely to continue with Suresh Raina in IPL 2022

CSK skipper MS Dhoni might be retained by the franchise depending upon the retention policy of IPL 2022.

According to reports, the four-times IPL champions will most be retaining star campaigner Ruturaj Gaikwad and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

The Yellow Army has always relied on the experience of senior players and will be definitely targetting them in the mega auctions.

“Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the two players who will be retained, come what may…Dhoni is seriously looking at the retention rules and if it is three players, he could be the third. But players like Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis or even the 38-year-old Dwayne Bravo will be targeted by CSK, along with the likes of Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar,” a source close to the developments told Times of India.

CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in IPL 2021 final to bag their fourth title, making them the second most successful side in the tournament after rivals Mumbai Indians who have won the trophy five times.

CSK’s output in 2021 was a testimony of resilience they showed after having a dismal season in IPL 2020 where for the first time in the history of the tournament, they failed to qualify for playoffs or knockout stages.

Suresh Raina is CSK’s highest run-scorer

Raina is CSK’s all-time highest run-scorer in IPL with 4687 runs from 171 innings and also has played the second-most matches in the team after MS Dhoni.

Raina scored 39 fifties and one hundred in his illustrious IPL career and missed only one season which was last year citing personal reasons.
