The former Indian fast bowler, Zaheer Khan, has supported MS Dhoni’s idea to continue with Ravindra Jadeja.
The southpaw all-rounder was finally able to deliver the goods, as he scalped three wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Jadeja also took the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli in the last match too.
Zaheer Khan added MS Dhoni is preparing his bowling brigade by giving a chance to Ravindra Jadeja. Dhoni had handed over the finishing role to Jadeja, but the all-rounder was not able to grab his chances.
However, Zaheer believes the Indian pitches will support spinners in the playoff stages, and Dhoni is getting Jadeja ready.
MS Dhoni has the ability to think ahead in the tournament.
“MS is making sure Jadeja is getting game-time bowling. He’s giving him that responsibility. This is going to be key. MS is very smart that way; he understands how important Jadeja’s role is going to be as they get into the Play-Off phase of the tournament. In the subcontinent, you’ve seen the wickets get slower and slower in April-May. As the tournament progresses, the wickets will get tired with plenty of games being played on them,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Zaheer added the groundsmen generally prepares one or two pitches. Khan further said MS Dhoni is thinking ahead in the tournament, as he is developing his players to find success in tough conditions.
“Usually, groundsmen everywhere prepare just one or two strips on which all the matches are played. So those wickets do tire down, and once they’re on the slower side, your slow bowlers are going to come into the picture. MS is looking far ahead and saying that let me prepare my arsenal in that way,” added Zaheer.
Jadeja was able to rise to the occasion against RCB.
Ravindra Jadeja was not given a lot of bowling in the initial stages of the tournament. However, MS Dhoni will make use of the Jadeja’s bowling services more in the upcoming matches. MS Dhoni was all praise for his spinners after the win against RCB.
“Spinners did not get turn (from the track), and I felt they needed to bowl really well. That’s where Bhajju pa (Harbhajan Singh) and Jadeja did well. On surfaces such as these, Jadeja bowls really well. He got Virat, and then AB de Villiers getting out (to Harbhajan) early helped him. We bowled well as a team,” Dhoni had said after the match.
Chennai Super Kings is currently at the second place after winning seven matches out of the ten they have played. MS Dhoni-led team will next meet Rajasthan Royals on May 11 at latter’s home ground.
