It is without a doubt that Royal Challengers Bangalore have been the most underperforming team in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have had some of the most exciting players in the T20 format since the past twelve seasons; however, they have failed to give the Bangalore-based franchise even a single trophy. Ahead of the auction on the 19th of December, their captain Virat Kohli has a message for the fans who are expecting them to go big this time.
The think-tank of the Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to axe plenty of players, mainly foreign recruits who failed to justify their price tag. Hence, they have an amount of INR 27.90 crores left in their purse to fill the slot of six overseas players. All the franchises have a pool of 332 players in the IPL auction to choose from. Among the leading players that they have retained are Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Moeen Ali, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar.
In the previous season, Virat Kohli’s men could manage to win only five games in the entire season. They started the season off the wrong foot, getting bundled for 70 in the inaugural match against Chennai Super Kings. Bangalore lost their first five games before registering their first victory of the edition against Kings XI Punjab. Having lost eight games, they ended up in the last position. The best position that they have secured in the tournament history is making it to the finals on three occasions.
