Delhi Capitals overseas players Anrich Nortje and Shimron Hetmyer expressed their gratitude towards team management and fans after their campaign ended in IPL 2021.

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals were knocked out of the tournament by Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday in Sharjah.

Capitals were asked to bat first, and they could post a moderate total of 135/5 on the board in the first innings.

Although the bowlers gave their best in the final four overs to pull the match in the team’s favour, they reduced KKR TO 130/7 at 19.4 overs from a position of 123/1.

KKR batter Rahul Tripathi smashed a six on the penultimate ball of the game to take his side to the final of IPL 2021, and that halted Delhi Capitals’ hopes to win their elusive IPl title.

Nortje, who picked 12 wickets from eight matches, expressed his disappointment not to win the IPL title but also thanked the team’s fans for their support throughout the season.

In sport and in life, things move so rapidly. Can’t believe how time went by with this amazing bunch. Proud of what we achieved and disappointed that we couldn’t get the trophy. Thank you to everyone involved, especially the fans, for sticking with us,” Nortje tweeted.

Hetmyer thanked Delhi Capitals for giving him the opportunity to play in IPL.

“Thanks to @DelhiCapitals for supporting me and giving me the opportunity to represent you guys really enjoyed it … ” Hetmyer tweeted.

Delhi Capitals had topped the table in IPL 2021, having won 10 of their 14 matches, but back to back loss in the knockout stage didn’t go well for them.

Pant led the team for the entire season as he replaced Shreyas Iyer after the latter was ruled out of the tournament ahead of the first leg owing to shoulder surgery.
