Ben Stokes Ruled Out Of IPL 2021 Due To Broken Hand- Reports

If reports from are to be believed that Rajasthan Royals (RR) will miss the services of their mercurial all-rounder, Ben Stokes, for the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2021. Rajasthan Royals recently played their first match of the tournament against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Ben Stokes had very little role to play his franchise’s opening match of the IPL 2021 as he bowled just one over against Punjab Kings (PBKS), who were asked to bat by RR captain Sanju Samson at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

PBKS put up a mammoth 221/6 in 20 overs with captain KL Rahul making 91 (five sixes, 7 fours), Chris Gayle making 40 and Deepak Hooda slamming 64 in 28 balls (6 sixes, 4 fours), as RR bowlers found it hard to contain the batsmen. Despite this, Chetan Sakariya, the RR debutant, picked 3/31 in his 4 overs, while Chris Morris picked two wickets.

Now it has been reported that the England allrounder sustained the injury during Rajasthan Royals’ opening match with Punjab Kings on Monday when taking a catch to dismiss Chris Gayle. Having dropped a chance earlier in the match, Stokes ran in from long on and dived forward to complete the dismissal of the West Indian batsman. He immediately felt discomfort in his left hand, grimacing as he got up to celebrate with his teammates.

The Independent reported that Stokes will remain in India for a week. Communication has already begun between the ECB and Royals around managing the injury. He will have an X-Ray in India on Thursday to determine how much damage has been done before the ECB take over the planning of the recovery.

Royals will next play Delhi Capitals on April 15 at the same venue in Mumbai.
