The swashbuckling opener, Prithvi Shaw has been in scintillating form since the Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year. He smashed a record 827 runs at a scarcely believable average of 165 and led domestic giants Mumbai to the title.

The right-hander continues his enviable form in the IPL 2021 as well plundering the Chennai Super Kings bowlers to all parts of the Wankhede in his 72-run dash off 38 balls to help the Delhi Capitals open their account on the points table.

Another notable thing in his knock against MS Dhoni’s side was his new bat sponsor: SG (Sanspareils Greenlands) and not the usual MRF sticker which has been seen on his willow until the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

While there were some murmurs about MRF pulling out as Prithvi Shaw’s sponsor due to “disciplinary issues.” However, it is not the case.

Ramakrishnan R, Co-founder of Baseline Ventures, the firm that manages the 21-year-old opener, revealed the Prithvi Shaw’s contract with MRF has completed and the two parties decided to not extend the contract. Hence, the Delhi Capitals batter was roped in by SG for IPL 2021 and thereafter.

“Contracts are airtight, you can’t just walk out of a contract. Prithvi’s contract with MRF has ended,” Ramakrishnan R was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol.

“Bat manufacturers have become aggressive now and are able to match commercial terms offered by an MRF or CEAT. Traditionally, they were not very aggressive or marketing-oriented. There is also an ease of procurement when you deal directly with a manufacturer, in terms of the willow and specifications a batsman might want,” he added.

Prithvi Shaw credits Pravin Amre for regaining his batting form

In his short international career, Prithvi Shaw has suffered extreme lows: After making hundred on debut to getting dropped after just one game in Australia, the youngster has learned immensely in his short career hitherto. But he was determined to bounce back. And he did in commanding fashion.

He was dropped after the Adelaide Test following scores of 0 and 4 and was heavily criticized for his flawed technique. The opener was replaced by Shubman Gill and excluded from the England series.

Prithvi Shaw reveals that returning from Australia he worked with Pravin Amre, the assistant coach at Delhi Capitals, ahead of the Vijay Hazare. In the surreal form he is, he has made sure the selectors will soon consider him for a recall across formats.

“From Australia when I was dropped I was working from there itself, coming back and across early, so I practised before going to Vijay Hazare with Pravin Amre and worked on that. I had a good plan before going into that tournament, so it is working quite well.

“I don’t want to think about it (being dropped from the Indian side) because it was a disappointing moment for me but I have to move on and if something is wrong with my batting or technique, I have to improve and I am working hard on myself,” the opener stated.
