Former South African pacer Dale Steyn has noted the Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni, as the poster boy for calmness during his captaincy reigns in IPL. MS Dhoni hasn’t had the best of times with the bat for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021, but his captaincy has been a big plus for the franchise, and he has taken the side to the playoffs as well.

Dhoni showed glimpses of returning to form in the recent qualifier 1 against Delhi Capitals, where he struck a 6 ball 18 run knock and showed that he still has the fire left in him. However, CSK will still hope that MS Dhoni’s captaincy skills come into play more as it has been very effective for the side.

Dale Steyn Reckons The Finals Will Come Down To Who Can Handle Pressure The Most

Dale Steyn has mentioned that pressure will play its part in the finals of IPL 2021 and has picked MS Dhoni as the poster boy for coolness and calmness in captaincy. He also felt that Eoin Morgan is not very behind in the race for the cool captain with an example of winning the Worldcup.

“It boils down to the last game, who can handle the pressure the most, and MS just looks like the guy that has done it so many times. Morgan is catching up, winning the world cup and having done well with the England team and all but MS Dhoni is the poster boy for cool, calm and collective when it comes to captaincy. Even if he has not scored runs.” Dale Steyn reckoned

Dale Steyn Opines On The Captain’s Contributions

Dale Steyn mentioned that CSK and KKR have enough contributions from everyone in the franchise that they have not needed the captain’s contributions from the bat. However, he added that the finals could need valuable contributions from the captains, and they should be ready to provide it.

“Both of these teams have made the finals, and both the captains have not done well at all. But it might boil down to pressure. Leading upto the tournament, everyone contributed where they can, but this is one game and that might be the problem. So far, it has not bothered both sides. They made it to the finals without the captain scoring runs,” Steyn explained.
