Krunal Pandya was on an emotional override when he scored a half-century on his India debut in the first ODI against England recently. He made the world record of the fastest fifty on ODI debut, in just 26 balls and celebrated in one of the enthusiastic ways.

He was later seen hugging his brother Hardik Pandya and shedding tears during the post-innings conversation remembering his father Himanshu who passed away due to a heart attack in January 2021. Krunal paid tribute to his father and described how difficult it has been for him and his younger brother Hardik to cope with the loss since then.

Krunal was highly emotional when he got his India ODI cap from his brother Hardik and then pointed that cap towards the sky in tribute to his father.

“It has been a difficult last 2 months because of what happened with Dad (passing away). One thing which I’ve realised is the life that we (Krunal and Hardik) have got as a family… lot of hard work, sacrifices and struggle has been done by that man.

We can say that we are just reaping the fruits of his efforts. He planted the seeds and made it blossom. Now when he’s not there and there are so many good things happening… You feel the weight of all that he did and gave us. Somewhere I feel that one part of my heart has gone with him,” Krunal said in a video posted on Mumbai Indians (MI).

Krunal Pandya was playing for Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy when he got the sad news of his father’s sudden passing. Krunal spoke about how his father encouraged him when he doubted his skills and confidence, his father told him that his time will come now.

Just 2 days before he passed away (16th (January), on the 14th of January he called me after seeing one of my innings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which was in Baroda. He said, ‘I’ve seen your knock, I’ve seen you play from the age of 6… But one thing I’ll tell you, after watching this knock is that your time will come now,” Krunal recalled.

“Whatever you have done till now is fine but your time will come’. These were his last words to me. And then, he went away after 2 days. Somewhere down the line I feel that his presence is there with me. It’s difficult, I feel every day that he is there. I miss him, in a good way. He was full of life in our family,” Krunal said.

Krunal and Hardik Pandya will be seen in action when Mumbai Indians will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2021 opener on April 9 in Chennai.
