IPL 2021: Michael Vaughan Reveals The List Of His Top 5 batters

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has revealed the list of his top 5 batters in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 which was played in two phases and ended with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifting their 4th IPL cup.

Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan named the Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul as the best batsman of IPL 2021. Rahul in his 13 match stint in IPL 2021 scored 626 runs at an average of 62.60. Vaughan said:

For me, the best batsman in this IPL was KL Rahul. The ‘Mr. consistent performer at the top of the order for Punjab. I think he will be the most sought-after player in the auction. Most franchises would be looking at him and would try to grab him from Punjab,”

The second pick of Michael Vaughan was Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan who scored 587 runs at an average of 39.13 in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Vaughan asserted:

 “Shikhar Dhawan is one of the best players in the world in white-ball cricket. He has got the skill, the experience, the guile to set the foundation at the top of the order.

The 46-year-old next picked Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Faf Du Plessis and praised him for being calm in every situation. Notably, Faf Du Plessis was the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 with 633 runs at an average of 45.21. Vaughan said:

Faf du Plessis is the wily old horse. He just seems to play without ego. He just plays the situation; he is very calm. Foundation, courage and calmness in a team is very important and Faf plays that role for CSK,” 

The second last pick by former England captain was Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad who smashed 635 runs at an average of 45.35 opening the innings for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Vaughan stated:

 “The Chennai management deserves a lot of credit because they back him [Ruturaj Gaikwad]. They have given him the belief, opportunities. [He was] one of the real highlights of this year’s IPL. The backing has been massive from the management, and he has certainly rewarded them.”

The last player in Michael Vaughan’s best batters list was Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Glenn Maxwell who had an outstanding run in the Indian Premier League 2021. Maxwell was the best batter for the Virat Kohli-led side and he managed to score 513 runs at an average of 42.75.

Maxwell was the real standout in terms of the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore. It seems that he has found his IPL home he has been searching for. I think he is going to be with them [RCB] for a few years,” Vaughan concluded.
