Hyderabad Cricket Association President Mohammad Azharuddin has revealed his take on the problematic situation concerning IPL 2021. With the COVID-19 cases rising in India and, more specifically amongst the IPL’s stakeholders, Mohammad Azharuddin has offered the stadium’s services for the tournament. Mumbai, where almost all teams are currently based, has witnessed an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.

BCCI initially ignored Hyderabad in the shortlisted venues for IPL 2021, containing Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Delhi. But with eight groundstaff at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai testing positive for COVID-19 along with Axar Patel, Devdutt Padikkal, and Nitish Rana becoming its victims, there could be serious considerations over shifting the games. Nevertheless, BCCI has now kept Hyderabad and Indore as backup venues.

Mohammad Azharuddin took to his official Twitter handle, claiming that in such testing times, there is more need to stand up for and with each other. Thus, as Hyderabad Cricket Association’s President, the former Indian captain offered its facilities to the BCCI so the tournament could safely take place.

Below is Mohammad Azharuddin’s tweet:

Nevertheless, a BCCI official addressed the COVID-19’s current grim situation by saying that they have still not considered shifting games from Mumbai to Hyderabad. The official remarked that it’s a challenge to create a bio-bubble on such short notice.

“Yes, Hyderabad is one of the stand-by venues but for all practical purposes, we are still not thinking about shifting games from Mumbai. It will be difficult to create another bio-bubble at such short notice,” a BCCI official said as quoted by India Today.
