The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered their seventh win of IPL 2021 with a 7-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday in Dubai.

Chasing 150, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal started off in a gung-ho fashion, attacking the RR pacers carting boundaries all around the park. However, both the openers departed in quick succession. Mustafizur Rahman provided RR with their first breakthrough, castling Padikkal (22 off 17) in the 6th over as RCB ended the powerplay at 54/1. Kohli (25 off 20) was run out by a sensational piece of fielding from Riyan Parag.

KS Bharat and Glenn Maxwell then steadied the ship with a 69-run stand bringing the required rate to less than 6-an-over. Bharat fell to Mustafizur in the 16th over after a well-compiled 44-run knock off 35 deliveries. Maxwell, though, didn’t take much time to finish off things, taking 22 runs of Morris, and raising his fifty off 30 deliveries.

Earlier, RR’s innings was a tale of two halves: their batters dominated in the first half of their innings before they imploded.

After being put in to bat first, RR openers Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a flying start with both left-handers clattering fours and sixes around the ground. The West Indian, in particular, was imperious as he hammered 3 fours and 3 sixes to take RR to 56/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Jaiswal (31 off 22) then took over the mantle stroking a couple of fours and a maximum off Daniel Christian, before the bowler dismissed him. On the other end, Lewis brought up his fifty off 31 balls. Sanju Samson joined in the fun with his first six off Yuzvendra Chahal to bring up RR’s 100 at the 11-over mark.

However, then began a procession of wickets. George Garton, the debutant, returned to pick the wicket of Evin Lewis (58 off 37), before and Chahal accounted for Mahipal Lomror (3 off 4).

Shahbaz Ahmed then pocketed for RR skipper, Samson (19 off 15), and Rahul Tewatia (2 off 3) in the 14th over. Liam Livingstone holed out in the deep off Chahal as RR slipped from 100/1 to 127/6.

Chris Morris and Riyan Parag were on their way to take RR over 150. Harshal Patel, however, after being expensive in his first three overs, picked three wickets in the last over to halt RR’s score to 149.

Twitter was buzzing, lauding the Royal Challengers Bangalore for their victory as they inch closer to sealing a playoff berth.
