Pat Cummins, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spearhead pacer, said the news of the IPL 2021 begin suspended “added a bit of anxiety” to the Australian players featuring the tournament, as they would be stranded in India for the next 10 days owing the border being closed by their government for flights from India.

On Tuesday, the BCCI haled the IPL due to at least 6 covid positive cases in 4 different franchises. While the New Zealand, South African, English, and Bangladeshi players would go back to their countries soon and undergo isolation, the Aussies have to be away from their home for at least another 10 days.

Pat Cummins, who had donated $ 50,000 for covid relief cause, says that while the players were already ready to stay in India till May 30th, the final of IPL 2021, however, with the tournament being suspended, they are hoping to get back to their homes soon.

“Once we flew out of Australia we knew we’d signed up for 14 days quarantine coming home so you feel a bit further from getting home, but when the hard border shut no one has ever experienced that before,” Pat Cummins told The Back Page on Fox Sports.

“[It has] added a bit of anxiety for the Aussies over here but we signed up to play the tournament until the start of June so hopefully it all reopens on May 15 and we can get back,” he added.

If we can’t get home it won’t be for lack of trying from all those involved: Pat Cummins

In recent news, it is believed that the entire Australian contingent, which is of about 40 members from players, coaches, officials to commentators, broadcasters will fly to the Maldives, and will join the commentator Michael Slater, who had already headed there earlier.

Pat Cummins, who had picked 9 wickets so far in the season for KKR, lauds the Cricket Australia (CA) and Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) who are in regular touch with the BCCI in regards to safe accommodation and repatriation of their players and others involved back home safely.

“Think we are all hoping we can get home like we would normally plan and the borders open on May 15, whether it’s [a] private [flight] or not we wouldn’t be allowed back in [at the moment].

“Cricket Australia have been brilliant along with the ACA, they are working closely with the government to get the latest information, if we can’t get home it won’t be for lack of trying from all those involved,” the No.1 ICC Test bowler stated.
