Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman David Warner applauded Virat Kohli after he played his last match for Royal Challengers Bangalore as their captain.

Ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021, Kohli announced that he would be giving up RCB’s captaincy at the end of the season after nearly leading the team for a decade.

Given that RCB are knocked out of IPL 2021 after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets on Wednesday in Sharjah, the fans and cricket world won’t see Kohli continue as the team’s leader from the next edition onwards.

Virat Kohli was almost close to score 1000 runs in IPL 2016: David Warner

Warner reminded Kohli of his spectacular season in IPL 2016, where the RCB skipper scored 973 runs from 16 innings at the strike rate of 152.03.

Kohli had also smashed four centuries in that season, which no other batsman has ever done in a single IPL edition.

“Not bad at all @imVkohli 2016 was a different level almost 1000 for the season,” Warner tweeted.

Interestingly it was Warner’s SRH that went on to defeat RCB by eight runs in the final to keep Kohli, and his men wait for their maiden IPL title.

With 848 runs from 17 matches, Warner was the second-highest run-scorer behind Kohli in IPL 2016.

David Warner future at SRH looks uncertain

Things didn’t seem to go well between the Australian player and his franchise in the final games of the league stage of IPL 2021 as Warner was dropped from the team and was seen cheering for them from the stands.

SRH had a very poor season in IPL 2021 as the Orange Army finished at the foot of the points table, having won only three matches from 14 games. Warner was replaced with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson as the team’s captain in the middle of the tournament.

Warner is Sunrisers Hyderabad’s highest run-scorer with 4014 runs from 95 matches and has scored 40 fifties and a couple of centuries for the franchise in seven IPL editions.
