Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was reprimanded by the Indian Premier League for his misconduct and breaching the IPL code of conduct during his team’s match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) which was the second qualifier of the ongoing IPL 2021.
KKR won the toss and decided to bowl first on the Sharjah pitch that was on the slower side. Their decision to bowl first worked as DC crawled to 135/5 in 20 overs, with Shreyas Iyer with 30* and Shikhar Dhawan with 36 being the top-scorers. Varun Chakravarthy with 2/26 in his 4 overs was the pick of the bowlers from the Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR chase got off to a brilliant start as Venkatesh Iyer (55 in 41 balls) and Shubman Gill (46 in 46 balls) added 96 runs in 12.2 overs. However, after that, KKR kept losing wickets as DC bowlers tried to make a brilliant comeback.
Dinesh Karthik Hit The Stumps With His Hands And Gets Reprimanded By The IPL
One of those wickets which fell in a flurry was of Dinesh Karthik who had been in indifferent form throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). His stay at the crease was only for 3 balls and he was clean bowled by Kagiso Rabada for a duck.
Karthik went for a glory shot on the leg side and the ball clattered into his stumps. As Karthik was going back to the pavilion, he punched the stumps on his way and uprooted one of the pegs as well. It seems this act in disappointment is what led to the IPL reprimanding the veteran keeper-batter to which he admitted guilt to a level 1 breach of the IPL code of conduct.
“Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” An official statement said.
This has been a dream comeback for Eoin Morgan and his team who were placed 7th on the points table when the IPL 2021 was postponed in India. They changed their attitude which was evident from including Venkatesh Iyer as an opener for the second phase in the UAE and he paid back in kind with over 300 runs till now.
They have a 100 percent win record in the finals, and this could be another title year for them. KKR will face Chennai Super Kings in the finals of the IPL 2021 on October 15, Friday.
