The Impact Player idea for the 2023 IPL season was unveiled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, December 1, albeit the board has not yet provided specifics on how it would operate. However, it is reported that only Indian players would be subject to the Impact Player rule in IPL 2023.

Using the Impact Player rule, a team can make a substitution in the middle of a game. A player from the starting eleven can be replaced by any of the team’s four substitutes during a live match. It is evident that each side will employ its own unique approach to using the new edge. Several professionals will be required for this task.

Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Kuldeep Sen impressed with his pace in the Indian Premier League this year. The right-arm pacer was part of the Rajasthan Royals’ set-up and played seven matches this year in which he picked up a total of eight wickets.

Rajasthan Royals had gone in with the strategy of using fewer all-rounders and more specialist options in the playing 11 with only Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Obed McCoy as their 5 bowlers with Riyan Parag being the 6th option.

However, Parag was not successful at all with his bowling, giving away more than 11 runs per over. Therefore, Rajasthan will look to bring in Kuldeep Sen as an Impact player who can fill in the gap.

Mukesh Choudhary

One of the players that could be frequently employed as an “Impact Player” in the IPL is Mukesh Choudhary. In IPL 2022, the CSK speed started off most innings brilliantly with the new ball but faltered in the final few overs. Next season, CSK may see some challenges with their pace attack due to Deepak Chahar’s similar role.

Because Deepak contributes more with the bat and in the closing overs than Mukesh does, they may now utilize Mukesh at the start and keep him in the starting lineup according to the new regulation.

CSK had a really disappointing season this year, however, Mukesh Chowdhary was one of the bright prospects for the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side and they would be hoping he comes good as an Impact Player as well.

Shahrukh Khan

The batter from Tamil Nadu, who was sold in the IPL 2022 Auctions for INR 9 Cr, was unable to justify his high price.
His performance in domestic cricket has also declined since then. He was anticipated to be released by the squad after scoring just 117 runs in 8 games with an average of 16.71 and a strike rate of 108.33, but he has managed to stay on the team.

With the kind of firepower on paper, the Punjab side has set a benchmark with its explosive batting consisting of batters such as Liam Livingstone, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shikhar Dhawan, etc. Their over-attacking batting style sometimes leads to losing wickets in a quick time and that is where Shahrukh Khan can come in as an Impact Player and make an impact for the side.

Abhinav Manohar

After selecting right-hander Abhinav Manohar for a premium sum of INR 2.60 Crore during the Indian Premier League 2022 auction, the Gujarat Titans undoubtedly shocked everyone.

The Karnataka batter started his IPL 2022 season well but later faded off. In 8 games played last season, Abhinav scored 108 at an average of 18 in 7 innings but with a healthy strike rate of 144. His strike rate is what will matter the most to the Gujarat Titans, who can use him in the role of a finisher.

With Hardik Pandya batting up the order, only David Miller and Rahul Tewatia were the batters left with the Titans who could do the work of a finisher. Therefore, Abhinav can suit well in this new role of an Impact player and help Gujarat Titans finish strong with the bat.

Varun Chakravarthy

During the two IPL competitions in 2020 and 2021, Varun Chakravarthy was a revelation for the KKR team, picking wickets for fun while doing a good job of maintaining a run rate in the middle overs of the innings.

But despite KKR’s confidence in him and their decision to keep him for the 2023 IPL, he has consistently had fitness issues this year.

He only managed to take 6 wickets at an economy of 8.51 in 11 matches during IPL 2022, and his performance was much below average. However, KKR can make very good use of the new Impact Player Rule On Varun Chakravarthy, making him bowl his 4 overs and then substitute him for another player.
