Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Kyle Mayers made his spectacular entrance onto the IPL stage, scoring 73-off-38 in his team’s first match in IPL 2023 against Delhi Capitals. His heroics led to a 50-run win for his team.

Due to Quinton de Kock missing a couple of games for the side, Mayers got the opportunity to open for LSG for the first time. Having been bought for 50 lakhs in the 2022 mega-auction, he did not play a match in his side’s run to the playoffs last year.

Talking about how he did not get a chance to play last year, the West Indian had this to say –

“I was here last year but didn’t get the opportunity to play. Being here is phenomenal for me. I didn’t get the game last year but I learnt a lot just to be part of this atmosphere. t helped me, and when I went on to play international cricket and did well there.”

Discussing his knock against DC, the 30-year-old highlighted how the pitch was new to all his teammates, as it was the team’s first IPL match in Lucknow

It was a new surface. None of our teammates knew how this surface would play. We try to assess as quickly as possible. It was a slow start as we were trying to understand how the pitch was reacting and trying to adapt. I got stuck in, faced a few balls, and then just executed my plans well when the balls came in my area,” said Mayers

Kyle Mayers has now generated a dilemma for his team, as it will be difficult to make space for Quinton de Kock when he arrives, as removing Mayers from the side would just not feel right now.

After his spectacular IPL debut, Kyle Mayers expressed how playing in the league had always been a dream of his.

Mayers joins the cast of impressive IPL debutant batsmen. The likes of Shaun Marsh and Brandon McCullum, captured everyone’s attention on their debuts.

Kyle Mayers opened up about how he had always imagined his IPL debut, getting a good start and showing his ability.

“I have always dreamt about playing in the IPL. I got the opportunity today. In my mind, I always wanted to get a good start to show my ability and show my worth, and I thought I did that,” he said.

Kyle Mayers and LSG will be looking to continue their good form in their next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 3.
