In a recent Indian Premier League encounter between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Delhi Capitals, the former’s cricketer Sunil Gavaskar delivered a witty remark that silenced Delhi’s opener, David Warner.

Speedster Mark Wood bagged his first-ever Indian Premier League fifer as Lucknow Super Giants cruised to a comprehensive victory over Delhi Capitals in Match 3 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

David Warner’s return to a captaincy in IPL with the Delhi Capitals didn’t go well as they were beaten by the Lucknow Super Giants. Warner scored a half-century and played well during the chase of 194, but the DC batting lineup was rocked by Mark Wood’s five-wicket haul. Delhi Capitals lost the match despite Warner’s efforts, and they will look to bounce back in their next fixture. David Warner is a vital player for Delhi Capitals not just as a captain but also as an opener.

He has a vast experience in leading teams and has been successful in the past, such as leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad to IPL glory. Warner’s leadership and batting will be crucial as the Delhi Capitals look to challenge for the IPL title this year.

“David Warner last time you were there in Delhi in 2011-12?”-  Sunil Gavaskar

Warner is thrilled to be returning to the venue while wearing the DC shirt for Delhi’s upcoming match against the Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. When former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull questioned Australia’s opening batsman about what to expect at the New Delhi stadium, Warner recalled his previous experience playing there in 2011 before switching to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Gavaskar, though, responded to Warner’s statement in dramatic fashion by reminding him of the Border-Gavaskar Test Series and the match Australia lost last month in New Delhi after a horrifying collapse.

David Warner: “We go back to Delhi in front of our home crowd. I know it’s a batting wicket. The last time, I was there in Delhi back in 2011, it was low and slow. Now I saw a bit of green grass on that surface. There will be a bit of dew in the night. If we can get an all-round good wicket, it would be fantastic.”

Sunil Gavaskar: “David last time you were there in Delhi in 2011-12? You were there last month!”

David Warner: “Yeah, I know that. That was a different pitch, it was a red ball. Let’s forget that.”

The Australian was silenced, then burst out laughing, and Doull interrupted and finished the talk by remarking, “Sunny is being cheeky here.”

Delhi will have a busy day ahead as they prepare for their upcoming game against GT on April 4.
