The defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) would be eager to start their defence in a grand fashion against CSK on 31st March (*Friday). Kane Williamson’s addition to GT camp could do wonders for the team. Williamson is someone who can hold one end on a sluggish track.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni would be hoping that the veteran batter Ambati Rayudu hits form as in IPL 2022 edition, he had scored 274 runs. CSK’s arsenal is their spin department where the onus would be on Jadeja to fox the batters with his variations. The Ahmedabad pitch suits both pacers & spinners where the batters would be tested.

Kane Williamson — a batting sensation

Kane Williamson was seen attending the press conference ahead of the CSK clash. Kane Williamson gave up his Test captaincy in order to focus on his batting. Kane Williamson pointed out that he can still contribute to the team if the management wants.

“My cricketing brain certainly hasn’t been switched off. When you’re out on the field, you’re trying to do as much as you can for the team. Whether that’s assisting where you can when you’re called upon for your ideas or otherwise,” said Kane Williamson.

“It’s quite a natural thing to be engaged in the game but having said that it [the decision to step down as Test captain] has taken a little bit off my plate, which was a large part of the reason for making that decision. Often, it’s the parts around it [captaincy], where you get a little bit more time back,” he stated.

“I’ve always thought it was never a ‘forever job’, it requires a lot of energy, and I really enjoyed my time in that specific role. I do enjoy being involved in leadership, which is basically helping where I can,” he added.

Steep Road Ahead for GT

GT skipper Hardik Pandya would be aware of the fact that CSK has got a lot of match-winners present in the form of Ben Stokes, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali & at the same time they have got a lot of variety in their bowling attack. Pandya needs to use Shami in 3 spells where he has the knack for breaking partnerships.

It would be interesting to see which batter replaces David Miller (*not available against CSK due to national duties) as Matthew Wade can be the like-for-like option where we have seen in the past that the can smash lusty blows & play match-winning knocks at the back end of the innings.
