IPL 2023: 3 Teams Which Can Target Mayank Agarwal In The Mini Auction. Punjab Kings have decided to let go of their former captain Mayank Agarwal ahead of the IPL auction 2023. Mayank Agarwal’s association with the Punjab Kings ended following his poor batting performance in the IPL 2022.

Punjab Kings looked like a shadow of themselves under Mayank Agarwal’s captaincy, far from impressive, and Mayank had a terrible campaign on a personal level. Despite possessing a strong team, the Punjab Kings finished sixth in IPL 2022 under Mayank Agarwal’s captaincy.

West Indies allrounder Odean Smith, Prerak Mankad, Writtick Chatterjee, Ishan Porel, Vaibhav Arora, Benny Howell, and Sandeep Sharma have also been released along with Mayank Agarwal before IPL Auction 2023.

The likes of Jonny Bairstow, Shahrukh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, and Liam Livingstone have been retained before IPL Auction 2023. The exit of Odean Smith and Mayank Agarwal means INR 18 crores more for PBKS’s purse.

Shikhar Dhawan has recently replaced Mayank Agarwal as PBKS captain for the upcoming IPL season 2023. The franchise had retained Mayank Agarwal ahead of the IPL 2022 auction for INR 12 crore but Mayank Agarwal failed both as a captain and a batter.

Mayank Agarwal scored only 196 runs in 13 IPL 2022 games averaging a mere 16.33 at a below-par strike rate of 122.5 and could manage only 1 fifty (52).

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad- SRH released 12 players, including skipper Kane Williamson and keeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran, ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction and have the biggest purse going into it.

SRH lacks an experienced Indian opener who can set the tone at the top of the order and Mayank Agarwal perfectly fits the bill. SRH is also on the lookout for a captain in the upcoming IPL season and may well rely on the Karnataka batsman for captaincy duties in IPL 2023.

2. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

As far as top-order batsmen are concerned, LSG have released Manish Pandey and Evin Lewis before the IPL 2023 auction. Though KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, in all likelihood, will open the batting for LSG in IPL 2023, the team could look to acquire Mayank Agarwal as a handy no. 3. Also, Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are good friends, having played together for Punjab Kings.

3. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings will also be on the hunt for a top-order Indian batsman following the retirement of Robin Uthappa and the release of N Jagadeesan. Mayank Agarwal could be the perfect choice for CSK as the team already has experienced openers in Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway and the addition of the former Punjab Kings captain will strengthen the top order.

While Rututaj Gaikwad was a good performer for the team in IPL 2022, the team could not find a consistent opener in the season. Devon Conway and Robin Uthappa got chances to open the innings for the team, but could not deliver the desired results. Mayank Agarwal can solve CSK’s opening woes in IPL 2023.

Chennai Super Kings also will surely search for their future captain in the IPL mini-auction 2023. Mayank Agarwal is a good option for CSK as a future captain after MS Dhoni’s retirement.
