Delhi Capitals (DC) bought five players in the IPL 2023 auction from their remaining purse of 19.45 crore. After the auction they still had 9.05 crores remaining and they had managed to complete a squad of 25 players. The franchise retained 20 players and released four players after IPL 2022. The Capitals finished fifth in the points table and failed to make the knockouts after losing their final league match to Mumbai Indians.
DC had all their bases covered and entered the auction to buy backups for their premier playing XI. The Capitals also had the least number of slots to fill. The franchise was on the lookout for an Indian all-rounder to replace Shardul Thakur after he was traded to KKR. They will also be on the lookout for a wicketkeeper after releasing KS Bharat and Tim Seifert during the retention window.

Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey was released by Luckow Supergiants after IPL 2022 after he did not have a good season with the newcomers last season. Delhi bagged him for 2.4 crores and added yet another middle-order batter to their squad. Pandey generally bats at number four. In the absence of Pant, he might have been the option but the management might find it difficult to go past Sarfaraz Khan in the lineup after his recent exploits in domestic cricket.
