Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought seven players as they completed their squad of 25 players in the IPL 2023 auction. The franchise finished fourth in IPL 2022 and are still looking for their maiden IPL title.

RCB has always managed to assemble a strong squad at every IPL auction but has not yet won the trophy. They retained the core of the side by retaining 18 players. They released just four players. Faf du Plessis the skipper, Virat Kohli, Josh Hazlewood, and Wanindu Hasaranga were the key players retained. Hasaranga and Hazlewood accounted for 46 wickets together in the last season and the franchise needed backups for both of them.

They also needed an Indian opener up at the top, an Indian spin option, and a backup for the veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik who rose as a finisher for them last season.

In Mohammad Siraj and Harshal Patel, RCB had two good Indian seam bowling options. Shabaz Ahmed was the rising star for Bangalore last season emerging as a good all-round option. The 2016 finalists also needed a few good Indian all-rounders. With just two overseas slots available, they needed an attacking overseas batsman and all-rounders as backups for Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell as well.

Topley was roped in by RCB for 1.9 crores. He is another overseas specialist bowler in the squad. The side already has Josh Hazlewood and David Willey who are different kind of bowlers. Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga are the two bowlers who played almost every game in the last IPL and are expected to do the same. Topley might find it difficult to get a chance in the XI.
