Meanwhile, the BCCI is all set to introduce a new rule in the tournament. The rule will be called the ‘Impact Player’ rule adding a new dimension to the tournament. As per the stated rules, both teams need to name four substitutes or impact players along with their playing XI at the time of the toss. The impact player can replace any member of the starting XI at any point before the end of the 14th over of either inning and will be able to bat and bowl his full quota of overs.

The Impact Player rule is only limited to Indian players and not overseas players. The board has not yet shared any rules and regulations on how will the concept work. The decision to not allow the overseas players to be used as the impact players has been made to make sure that only four foreign players are taking part in an IPL game.

Abhinav Manohar

Manohar was roped in by Gujarat Titans for 2.60 crores. He had a good start to the season playing a few cameos but his impact lessened as the season progressed. In 8 games played last season, Abhinav scored 108 at an average of 18 in 7 innings but with a healthy strike rate of 144.

His strike rate might make the management use him as an impact player. With Hardik Pandya and David Miller around him, Manohar can be given the license to go hard in the final overs.

Tewatia has time and again shown his promise in the IPL with the bat. The Titans paid 9 crores to fetch him in the mega auction. He repaid the faith by finishing three to four games for them. He is the ideal cricketer in the side to be used as an ‘Impact Player’ given his ability to strike in the final overs.

Vijay Shankar

Shankar is another all-rounder in the lineup who can be used as an ‘Impact Player’. The Indian all-rounder is nowhere close to international selection at the moment but a good season with Gujarat in IPL 2023 might see him make a comeback.

He played four games last year scoring just 19 runs and not picking up any wickets. He can be used as a pinch-hitter in the lineup.

The 37-year-old is one of the veterans of the IPL having played for a number of teams. For Gujarat Titans, he scored 317 runs in 11 games last season averaging 31.70. He provided the impetus to the team’s opening stands. He scored three fifties while opening the batting and played with a real sense of intent. Gujarat can ask him to do the same as an impact player.

Jayant Yadav

On spinning tracks, Jayant Yadav can be used as an impact player in support of Rashid Khan. Jayant did not play a single game for Gujarat last season but now with this new rule, he can be used almost as a substitute to pair up with the Afghanistan spinner.
