Lucknow Super Giants need to fill up 10 slots heading into the IPL 2023 auction. The KL Raghul-led side finished ninth in IPL 2022 with nine wins and just five losses. The team is mentored by Gautam Gambhir and him along with the team management is already working on going all the way next season.

A total of 991 players are set to go under the hammer in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on December 23. There are 714 Indian players and 277 overseas players in total. 21 players have registered themselves for a base price of 2 crores all of whom are overseas players.

Every franchise has a total salary cap of Rs. 95 crores in the IPL 2023 auction. During the retentions, the 10 teams retained 163 players in their squad. Now, there are 87 slots available.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has introduced a newly laid IPL rule by the name of Impact Player. This will be made into practice after it was a successful experiment in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

As per the stated rules, both teams need to name four substitutes or impact players along with their playing XI at the time of the toss. The impact player can replace any member of the starting XI at any point before the end of the 14th over of either inning and will be able to bat and bowl his full quota of overs.

Cricbuzz reported that the Impact Player concept could apply only to the Indians. The board has not yet shared any rules and regulations on how will the concept work.

The decision to not allow the overseas players to be used as the impact players has been made to make sure that only four foreign players are taking part in an IPL game. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at five LSG players who can be used as Impact Players.

Ayush Badoni

Badoni was the breakout star for Lucknow in his first IPL season. He displayed a cool and calm head on his shoulders and took his side to a win against Gujarat Titans. He and Evin Lewis had a match-winning partnership. He scored 161 runs in 13 games but the knock of 54 against the Titans proved that he is one for the future. LSG can use him as an impact player.

Krunal Pandya

The elder Pandya played a few cameos in the previous season and one of them was against his brother’s team, the Gujarat Titans. He picked Hardik’s wicket and scored 21 off 13 balls turning the match in Lucknow’s favor. It was a typical impactful performance something that suits his style of play.

Deepak Hooda

Hooda is another big hitter on the side who can be used as an impact player. He score over 400 runs in his debut season with Lucknow which paved the path for his international debut. Lucknow can best utilize his potential by using him as an impact player in close games.

Mohsin Khan

The left-arm pacer was one of the finds in the last IPL season. This new Impact Player rule will make the franchises think about certain players in a different way. Mohsin with his pace and accuracy is one such player. He picked up 14 wickets in his debut IPL season.

Krishnappa Gowtham

Gowtham too is an all-rounder with good potential to play cameos. His best in the IPL came against Mumbai Indians where he scored an unbeaten 33 off 11 balls to win the game for his die striking at 300. He is the best fit for an impact player which Lucknow can use to their advantage in run-chases.
