Royal Challengers Bangalore retained 18 players and will be looking to fill seven spots in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction. They have a remaining purse of 8.75 Crores which they need to fill up the players. Each franchise has to have a minimum of 25 players in their squad.

A total of 991 players are set to go under the hammer in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on December 23. There are 714 Indian players and 277 overseas players in total. 21 players have registered themselves for a base price of 2 crores all of whom are overseas players. There are only 87 maximum slots left to be picked during the auction.

Meanwhile, the BCCI will be introducing a new rule named the ‘Impact Player Rule’ in the upcoming season. The rule was first used as an experiment in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament and has been given the green signal to be used in the IPL.

As per the stated rules, both teams need to name four substitutes or impact players along with their playing XI at the time of the toss. The impact player can replace any member of the starting XI at any point before the end of the 14th over of either innings and will be able to bat and bowl his full quota of overs. The replaced player can take no further part in the game.

Reports in Cricbuzz also say that the ‘Impact Player’ rule is only limited only to Indian players as stated by the BCCI. The decision was taken to ensure that no overseas players are used as impact players since there are already four players allowed to play in the XI. Virat Kohli 

With Faf du Plessis as the skipper of RCB, the management can use Virat Kohli as an impact player in crucial games. The former Indian skipper has got his form back since the Asia Cup. He was the highest run-getter in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. He also notched up his 44th ODI ton and his 72nd overall in the final ODI against Bangladesh. Kohli is IPL’s highest run-getter with more than 6600 runs.

Dinesh Karthik 

Karthik is the side’s established finisher and can be used as an impact player. He could not quite replicate his IPL form in international cricket in the opportunities he got. He played for India in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup but failed to play any impactful innings. IPL 2023 might be his last season in the league. 

Harshal Patel 

Harshal won the Purple Cap in IPL 2021 taking 32 wickets in IPL 2021 which saw him make his debut in white-ball cricket for India. He was at his very best that season. In 2022, he picked up 19 wickets to mark another good season. He is now seen as a death overs specialist within the RCB squad. The side can make use of his expertise by making him an impact player in a few games next season.

Rajat Patidar 

Patidar made his presence felt in the last season for RCB. He played 8 matches for the side coming in as a late replacement. He scored 333 runs including a knock of 112 in Bangalore’s last match against the Lucknow Super Giants. He scored 58 in qualifier 2 which was won by Rajasthan Royals in the end. Given his potential, RCB can use him as an impact player.

Shahbaz Ahmad

All-rounder Shabaz Ahmed can be the final player on this list. He played a few cameos in the last season along with Dinesh Karthik. He can make a difference with both bat and ball if he is used as an impact player. The Bengal all-rounder made his white-ball debut in the recent series against South Africa.
