Mumbai Indians (MI) had an IPL 2022 season to forget and with only 4 wins from 14 matches, the Rohit Sharma-led side finished at the last spot in the points table. Since there was a mega auction this year, the franchise couldn’t retain the services of the majority of its players and brought in fresh faces.

Mumbai Indians (MI) has decided to release long-serving Kieron Pollard for IPL 2023. Mumbai Indians- MI has also decided to release Fabian Allen & Tymal Mills and the list has been submitted to the BCCI. Apart from the trio, Mayank Markande and Hrithik Shokeen are said to have been released.

After the IPL 2022 mega auction, the cricket legends weighted Punjab Kings among the probable teams to reach the playoff and even win the IPL trophy. The reason was that they had a very good team comprising a bunch of talented utility players who could single-handedly win matches for the franchise.

But, after the IPL league stage finished, the Mayank Agarwal-led team found themselves packing their bags with just 7 wins from 14 matches, finishing the IPL 2022 points table in the 6th position. There will be a lot of brainstorming from now leading up to the 16th edition of the IPL. The likes of Shahrukh Khan, Benny Howell, Sandeep Sharma, Vaibhav Arora, and even IPL 2022 skipper Mayank Agarwal may be released by the franchise.

According to several reports, the Mohali-based franchise is eyeing to release three expensive buys – Mayank Agarwal (INR 12 crore), Shahrukh Khan (INR 9 crore) and Odean Smith (INR 6 crore) – so that they will enter the mini-auction with a big purse.

Tymal Mills

Much was expected from Tymal Mills but he disappointed in his comeback IPL season. Bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.50 crore, Tymal Mills scalped 6 wickets in 5 matches but bowled with an economy rate of 11.18. The economy rate above 10 is really not acceptable even if a bowler is a death-over specialist.

Tymal Mills, England’s left arm pacer couldn’t control the flow of runs and his struggles saw him play just 5 matches. He is one of MI’s released players going into the mini-auction. After having made his IPL debut with RCB in 2017, Tymal Mills returned after a gap of 5 years.

A death-over specialist, he was snapped up by MI for 1.5 crores. Punjab Kings might target him in IPL 2023. He would then team up with the likes of Australian pacer Nathan Ellis, Indian pacer death over specialist Arshdeep Singh and veteran Indian pacer Sandeep Sharma in Punjab’s IPL 2023 squad if they are retained.

Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard has been with Mumbai Indians since his debut season in 2010. However, in IPL 2022, he performed poorly by scoring only 144 runs in 11 games averaging a mere 14.4 at a below-par strike rate of 107.46. His best score was only 25 in IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians (MI) has decided to release long-serving Kieron Pollard for IPL 2023. Punjab Kings may target Kieron Pollard in IPL 2023 auctions as they don’t have many overseas all-rounders who can be designated finishers in the team especially if the likes of Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith are released. He can also give valuable tips as a leader to Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan.

Hrithik Shokeen

Just 21, the young off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen was picked up by Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 20 lakhs in IPL 2022 mega auctions. He played 5 games and picked 2 scalps besides scoring 43 runs in his maiden IPL 2022 season. As he would be released by Mumbai Indians before IPL 2023 auctions, Punjab Kings may bring him on board to team up with the likes of Writtick Chatterjee, Rahul Chahar, and Liam Livingstone in their IPL 2023 squad.
