Mumbai Indians (MI) had an IPL 2022 season to forget and with only 4 wins from 14 matches, the Rohit Sharma-led side finished at the last spot in the points table. Since there was a mega auction this year, the franchise couldn’t retain the services of the majority of its players and brought in fresh faces.

The likes of Tymal Mills, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, and Fabian Allen may be released by the franchise along with misfiring Kieron Pollard and IPL 2022’s biggest buy Ishan Kishan, though the last two may also be retained for IPL 2023.

Rajasthan Royals had a memorable campaign during the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League 2022. They meant business from the very first game and finished second at the end of the group stage with nine wins in 14 games.

Sanju Samson & co. conquered Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier to reach the Final but failed to recreate history as they lost the summit clash to Gujarat Titans.

Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal led Rajasthan’s charge in the IPL 2022 season and were the winners of the Orange Cap and Purple Cap respectively. The think tank had done a pretty good job at the mega auction 2022 to assemble a quality squad and it clearly paid dividends.

Rajasthan Royals were the first-ever champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) way back in 2008, but after winning the inaugural season of the league, they lost their way for a long time and struggled to even make it to the playoffs consistently in the last decade.

However, during the last IPL 2022, after assembling a new team in the mega auction, Rajasthan Royals showed the old spark again under the captaincy of Sanju Samson and they made it to the final of the tournament before losing against the Gujarat Titans.

Ahead of the next IPL 2023 mini-auction, which will be held in mid-December, Rajasthan Royals might retain most of their players from the last year’s squad. Rajasthan Royals might release the likes of Rassie Van Der Dussen, Daryl Mitchell, Navdeep Saini, Karun Nair and Obed McCoy.

Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard has been with Mumbai Indians since his debut season in 2010. However, in IPL 2022, he performed poorly by scoring only 144 runs in 11 games averaging a mere 14.4 at a below-par strike rate of 107.46. His best score was only 25 in IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians (MI) has decided to release long-serving Kieron Pollard for IPL 2023. Mumbai Indians- MI has also decided to release Fabian Allen & Tymal Millis and the list has been submitted to the BCCI. Apart from the trio, Mayank Markande and Hrithik Shokeen are said to have been released. Rajasthan Royals may target Kieron Pollard in IPL 2023 auctions as they don’t have many overseas all-rounder who can be designated finishers in the team.

Tymal Mills

Much was expected from Tymal Mills but he disappointed in his comeback IPL 2022 season. Bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.50 crore, Tymal Mills scalped 6 wickets in 5 matches but bowled with an economy rate of 11.18. The economy rate above 10 is really not acceptable even if a bowler is a death-over specialist.

Tymal Mills, England’s left-arm pacer couldn’t control the flow of runs and his struggles saw him play just 5 matches. MI released him going into the mini-auction. After having made his IPL debut with RCB in 2017, Tymal Mills returned after a gap of 5 years. A death-over specialist, he was snapped up by MI for 1.5 crores. Rajasthan Royals might target him in IPL 2023 auctions.

Fabian Allen

Picked up at the base price of INR 75 lakh in IPL 2022, Fabian Allen is an all-rounder who bowls left-arm spin and bats right-handed. However, Mumbai chose to release him before IPL 2023 mini-auction, as he has scored only 14 runs averaging a mere 7, and taken 2 wickets averaging a high 68 playing 5 games in his IPL career.

However, the West Indies all-rounder has played 34 T20Is where he managed 267 runs averaging 16.69 and took 24 scalps averaging 27.29. Fabian Allen, the left-arm spin-bowling allrounder, declined a retainer contract with Cricket West Indies earlier in 2022 and has been absent for “personal reasons” throughout West Indies’ home season.

He made himself available for international selection again ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, six months since his last appearance in a West Indies shirt. The all-rounder’s last appearance in international cricket was in February 2022 during West Indies- India series in India. He may be targeted by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023 as they don’t have an overseas spin all-rounder.
