Mumbai Indians have arguably had one of their worst IPL campaigns this season. The five-time champions were the first franchise to be eliminated from the playoff race, after losing eight consecutive matches. Now, prior to the IPL 2023 auction, each franchise is allowed an unlimited number of retentions.

However, it is likely that given their disastrous outing in this campaign, Mumbai will release a few players. Moreover, the likes of Ben Stokes and Sam Curran are expected to be in the auction pool next season. However, let’s take a look at three players if MI retain can end up backfiring.

West Indian all-rounder Fabian Allen was another signing made by Mumbai Indians, which did not work out to plan. The spinner just got one opportunity, picking up one wicket and conceding 46 runs at an economy rate of 11.50. The all-rounder can feel hard done by, given the lack of chances this season.

With Kieron Pollard having a below-average season, the franchise will surely look to plan for the future. Moreover, with a limited overseas quotas per squad, MI will look the need for Fabian Allen to fire if retained in the squad.
