Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder R Sai Kishore has said that Hardik Pandya’s captaincy style is comparable to that of MS Dhoni. He added that both IPL captains are pretty calm when handling things on the field.
Pandya, who won the 2022 season of IPL as the captain of the debuting GT, impressed many with how he developed as a captain throughout the season. His captaincy for Gujarat also propelled him to become India’s vice-captain in limited-overs formats. He even captained the side on multiple occasions when regular captain Rohit Sharma was not playing.

Sai Kishore, whose first exposure to IPL was him being bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2020, played a role in GT’s triumphant campaign in the latter half of the tournament. Having been a subject of captaincy by both – Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni, he said that both are pretty similar in the way they handle business.
“Hardik and Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) are pretty similar in the way they handle things, they are both pretty calm,” he said as quoted by TOI.

As if comparing Pandya to the most successful Indian captain of all time wasn’t enough praise, Sai Kishore went into what he most admires about the Gujarat captain.
“One thing that I really admire about Hardik is his ability to handle success and failure equally – that is something very unique about him. He is a level-headed guy and that works (for him).”
The 26-year-old will be looking to partake in another successful season for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023.
R Sai Kishore discusses the ‘Impact Player’ rule introduced in IPL 2023
In December last year, it was announced that IPL 2023 will introduce an ‘Impact Player’ rule. Under this rule, teams will name 4 substitute players along with their playing XI. At any point in the two innings, one of these players can be substituted for a player in the XI. This player will be named the Impact Player for their side and can be used in batting and bowling.
BCCI in its domestic circuit has already used a similar rule, but with many more restrictions.
R Sai Kishore, who as a spinner might see him being used as an Impact Player for Gujarat Titans, discussed the new rule and how it compares to a similar rule in domestic cricket.
“It is more like the super-sub rule where we can either use a bowler or a batsman. It is basically like playing with 12 people. We have already played with this (rule) in domestic (cricket). The only change is that we can use it till the 20th over, in domestic it was restricted to the 14th over. In 20 overs, it should be a lot easier to handle,” he said.
The Tamil Nadu spinner also revealed that he is looking to make his way to the Indian National Cricket Team with a good showing in IPL 2023.
