The veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has been one of the finest opening batters for India over the past decade, recently opened up about in-form batter Shubman Gill replacing him in the ODI squad. Shikhar Dhawan said that he would pick Shubman Gill ahead of himself in the current Indian ODI lineup.

Shikhar Dhawan was dropped from the squad following his below-par performances in the 50-over format. The left-handed batter wasn’t included in the series against Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka at home. The southpaw scored just 186 runs in his last 10 innings with an average of 18.6. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, has been going through the form of his life.

Would Have Selected Shubman Gill – Shikhar Dhawan

In an interview with Sports Talk, Shikhar Dhawan said that it was a fair call from the team management to pick Shubman Gill over him in the ODI squad and that he would have done the same if he was the selector.

“I feel the way Shubman is (playing at the moment). Like he was playing two formats and performing well in Tests and T20s. He was playing more matches in the international circuit and I wasn’t,” he said.

“If I was the selector than definitely would have give the chance to Shubman. Would have selected Shubman over Shikhar,” he added.

Whatever Is In My Hand, I Want To Do That – Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan stated that he wants to prepare for the World Cup and keep himself prepared for the marquee event by doing whatever is in his hands.

“Even if the opportunity doesn’t come, I won’t have the regret in my heart that I didn’t prepare myself. Whatever is in my hand, I want to do that,” he added.

The 37-year-old will lead the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Kings will begin their campaign in the mega tournament against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, on Saturday, April 1.
