The Rajasthan Royals announced their full coaching staff for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday. The 2008 title-winning team decided to continue with Kumar Sangakkara in a dual role for the franchise as Director of Cricket and Head Coach. Trevor Penney will serve as the assistant coach for the Jaipur-based franchise in the cash-rich league.

Lasith Malinga will continue as the fast bowling coach, and Zubin Bharucha will be the director of strategy, development, and performance. Giles Lindsay will serve as Rajasthan’s Head of Analytics and Technology, while Siddhartha Lahiri will be the Support Coach and Dishant Yagnik will be the Fielding Coach of the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the mega tournament.

The Sanju Samson-led team has also retained the services of AT Rajamani Prabhu as strength and conditioning coach, John Gloster as head physio, and Dr. Rob Young as team doctor.

The IPL 2022 finalists have hired Neil Barry as their assistant physio and Mon Brokman as their mental performance coach. Brokman will assist the Royals with mental training and making decisions under pressure, given his experience working with athletes from various Olympic sports. Barry will assist John Gloster during the IPL season and previously worked for the Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League.

The Rajasthan Royals finished as runners-up in the last season of the IPL under the leadership of Sanju Samson. The Royals finished in second place in the points table, winning nine of their 14 matches. They beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 2 to reach their second final in the history of the marquee event. The RR last reached the IPL final in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

The much-awaited 16th edition of the IPL will kick off on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The upcoming season will be played in a home-away format for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rajasthan Royals will start their campaign in the mega tournament against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, April 2.
