Indian middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav is a T20I superstar with his 360° game and inventive shots, but he has yet to prove his worth in longer formats of the game. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar shared an important piece of advice to Suryakumar Yadav, following the Mumbai batter’s failures in the recently concluded three-match ODI series between India and Australia.

The 32-year-old batter came under fire after registering three consecutive golden ducks in the ODI series. The right-handed batter got a chance to play in the middle order in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who missed the series due to a back injury. The left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc dismissed him twice with brilliant inswingers in the first two games, while Ashton Agar bowled him in the final ODI.

In the post-match show on Star Sports after the third ODI between India and Australia, Sunil Gavaskar believes that this happened to the best players in the history of the game. The former India opener advised Suryakumar Yadav to focus on the IPL and score runs to regain his form.

“Nothing, nothing. He has just got to understand that this can happen to the best of players and it has happened to the best of players. So, I think, all he has got to do now is focus, forget these 3 matches and focus on the IPL, get runs over there. Once he gets runs in the IPL, he will come back confident for the next one-day game,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

He Might Have Been A Little Too Anxious – Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar said it is difficult to pinpoint flaws in Suryakumar Yadav, who has been out three times on the first ball, and that the batter might have been too anxious.

“Well, he was out first-ball 3 times. It’s very difficult to say what is going wrong. Yes, there were two good deliveries that Mitchell Starc bowled in the first 2 matches. Yes, he might have been a little too anxious,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav will next be seen in action for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rohit Sharma-led team will begin their campaign in the mega tournament against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, April 2.
