Ahead of the upcoming IPL 2023 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Sanjay Bangar has given out advise to the new and young players in his side on how to make the big step from domestic cricket to IPL.

With already a core squad in place from last season, RCB looked to improve their squad depth with the young Indian talents in the mini-auction last December. These include bowlers Rajan Kumar, Avinash Singh, and Himanshu Sharma, along with local all-rounders R Sonu Kumar and Manoj Bhadange.

In a video shared by the team on its social media, Sanjay Bangar named these youngsters and advised them on how to make the step from the domestic circuit to IPL.

“I could have sensed what you have been growing through. Avinash, Himanshu, Rajan, guys take that step up from domestic cricket, for you to take that step up from hinterland, domestic tournaments right into the IPL. “Dream big, put in the best efforts, and let things unfold in front of you. It will be gradually growing into the first session but we will get the workload going from hereon so that we are best prepared when the game comes on the 2nd (April),” he said.

Despite buying several Indian young players, RCB are essentially going into 2023 with its 2022 squad with minor changes. They did make it to playoffs last season, before being defeated by eventual runner-ups Rajasthan Royals.

Sanjay Bangar believes RCB players can take inspiration from Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik was considered out of the loop for selection in Team India. But after his inspired IPL 2022 season at the age of 37, he made it back into the national team, even playing in the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup. RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar feels that players in the team can take inspiration from DK.

“Somebody has fulfilled your long-cherished dream of playing for the country in the World Cup event, someone like DK (Dinesh Karthik). Dinesh wanted to somehow make it to the team. Harshal (Patel) was a part of the World Cup squad. So all in all, what I feel is that the kind of energy we bring in here and especially on the first day of our new beginning, for some of you, the experience of stepping onto that team bus would have been fantastic for the first time,” said Sanjay Bangar.

RCB will kick off their IPL 2023 season on April 2, against 5-time Champions Mumbai Indians.
