According to a recent report in Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer, who is currently grappling with a back injury, has been advised that he takes a 10-day break from any strenuous activities before a final decision is made on his availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This comes after he was forced to withdraw from the three-match ODI series against Australia due to a reaggravation of his injury.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Shreyas has had to contend with a back injury. He was previously forced to sit out the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because of a similar issue. Although he did manage to recover and return to play in the series finale in Ahmedabad, he was eventually pulled out due to concerns about his back. In fact, Shreyas has had to deal with this issue on several occasions in the past, including during the ODI series against New Zealand.

Given his importance to both the Indian cricket team and his IPL franchise, it is no surprise that Shreyas’ injury has caused some concern. Many fans and experts alike are eagerly waiting for an update on his condition and whether he will be able to take part in the IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders Might Be Forced To Look For Shreyas Iyer’s Temporary Replacement
Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the ODI series against Australia due to a back injury and initial scan results did not look promising, which was confirmed by team captain Rohit Sharma following the Test series against Australia. Seeking further treatment, Iyer consulted Dr. Abhay Nene, a spine specialist in Mumbai, who recommended that the player undergo rest and rehabilitation to address the issue.

Given Iyer’s importance to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in terms of run-scoring and leadership, the team is now in search of a potential replacement skipper for the first half of the IPL season.Â
The team is expected to arrive in Kolkata soon for preparations, and a decision regarding the leadership position will be made at that time. While veteran skipper Sunil Narine, who led KKR’s sister franchise, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, in the previous edition of the IPL, may seem like a logical choice, reports indicate that KKR is unlikely to pursue that route.
