The South African batter David Miller is set to miss the opening match of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to national duty, when the Gujarat Titans take on the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, March 31. David Miller revealed that his franchise isn’t impressed with his decision to skip the first match.

South Africa will host the two ODI matches against the Netherlands, which were interrupted due to COVID-19. This series is part of the CWC Super League, and the hosts need to win the matches to make direct qualification for the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played in India later this year. The Proteas will play two matches on March 31 and April 2, respectively.

We Have Got Some Work To Do In Those Two Games – David Miller

Speaking at a press conference in Potchefstroom, David Miller said that he was disappointed to miss the opening game against Chennai. The left-handed batter said that the team will play with a strong side against the Dutch as their 2023 World Cup spot is at stake.

“They were really upset. It’s always a big thing playing in Ahmedabad, especially in an opening game against Chennai. I am a bit disappointed to be missing that, but to put on the green and gold has always been a huge privilege and honour,” David Miller said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“And we have got some work to do in those two games against the Netherlands, so I think having a strong team – the best squad we can pick – is definitely the way forward. I will be missing one game so, whether I’m somewhat disappointed or not, the process has taken place,” he added.

The southpaw played an important role in the Gujarat Titans’ maiden title victory in the last season. The 33-year-old scored 481 runs in 16 matches with an average of 68.71 and a strike rate of 142.73. He played a crucial knock against the Rajasthan Royals to help his team reach the final.
