Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting made a major prediction about the team’s star-opener, Prithvi Shaw for the IPL‘s 2023 season, said he will have a great season this year.
Having been bought by the Delhi franchise back in 2018 as an 18-year-old, Prithvi has been crucial to the side’s success in the last few years despite an up-and-down form. He has even played a few matches for the India National Cricket Team. Never posting up high averages for an opener, Shaw is instrumental for Delhi due to the quick starts he provides to his team.

Despite a few great performances, some might say that Prithvi Shaw is yet to have a breakout IPL season, where he might be in contention for the Orange Cap. Capitals coach Ponting believes that 2023 will be the season where we will see “the real Prithvi Shaw.”
“I spoke with him the other day about his attitude and the way that he’s working and how things are going. And I honestly feel this is going to be his biggest season ever in the IPL. He just has that different look in his eye this year. You can see him probably hungry than ever. and yeah he has had some success for us. But I think you know the the level of talent and ability that he’s got, I think we’re really going to see the real Prithvi Shaw this season,” said Ricky.

Prithvi Shaw will most probably be opening the innings for DC alongside captain David Warner. Despite the Australian’s poor form, this duo has the potential of being the most explosive opening partnership in IPL 2023.
Ricky Ponting comments on Rishabh Pant’s absence in IPL 2023, says the team will miss him as a player and as a captain
Rishabh Pant was involved in a horrific car crash in December 2022. Although he suffered multiple injuries in his head, foot, and back, he was lucky to have gotten away from the accident without a massive injury. Suffice it to say he will be missing IPL 2023.
Having been a solid middle-order batsman and a match finisher, Pant was also handed the captaincy of Delhi Capitals following Shreyas Iyer’s exit from the side in 2022. Although the team did not make it to playoffs, Rishabh’s role with the bat and behind the stumps is vital for his side’s success.
While speaking to reporters recently, Ricky Ponting lamented the absence of his star player and how he is amongst the best wicket-keeper batsmen in the World.
“Pant is a huge loss and it doesn’t matter who we bring in as we are still going to miss Rishabh. I am not going to joke or try and gloss over that fact and he is one of the best players in the world in three formats of the game.”
Delhi Capitals will start their IPL 2023 season on April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise from Delhi will be looking to pick up its first IPL title.
