IPL Auction 2023: 3 Australian Players That Punjab Kings Can Target. Despite having a quality team, the Punjab Kings under Mayank Agarwal’s captaincy finished sixth in the IPL 2022. Shikhar Dhawan will now captain the team as he replaces Mayank Agarwal , who served in that capacity throughout the previous season.

Punjab Kings released Mayank Agarwal, Odean Smith, Vaibhav Arora, Benny Howell, Ishan Porel, Ansh Patel, Prerak Mankad, Sandeep Sharma, and Writtick Chatterjee.

After the IPL 2022 mega auction, the cricket legends weighted Punjab Kings among the probable teams to reach the playoff and even win the IPL trophy. The reason was that they had a very good team comprising a bunch of talented utility players who could single-handedly win matches for the franchise.

But, after the IPL league stage finished, the Mayank Agarwal-led team found themselves packing their bags with just 7 wins from 14 matches, finishing the IPL 2022 points table in the 6th position. There will be a lot of brainstorming from now leading up to the 16th edition of the IPL 2023.

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been confirmed as the new captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise for the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Shikhar Dhawan, who is not a part of the Indian T20 World Cup 2022 squad and is considered an ODI specialist and ODI skipper will replace another opener Mayank Agarwal as the leader of the Punjab-based franchise in the IPL 2023.

As many as 991 players, including 277 overseas stars, have registered for the IPL 2023 mini-auction, which will be held in Kochi on December 23. Australian players dominate the list of 991 registered players as 57 have signed up for the IPL auction 2023 from the country.

Moises Henriques

A released player that PBKS would like back in their dressing room is the Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques. Though his IPL debut in 2009 and playing in various franchises, Moises Henriques got a stable batting in SRH from 2014-2017.

He played a big role in SRH’s victory in the year 2016. Moises Henriques was then bought by PBKS in the year 2021 and played 10 innings for the team. In total, Moises Henriques has played 62 IPL matches scoring 1000 runs and crushing 42 wickets.

The Portugal-born Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques has captained Sydney Sixers to two consecutive victories in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 BBL seasons. Thus PBKS will be looking to get back the genuine all-rounder in IPL Auction 2023 with the large sum of money they are left with.

Jhye Richardson

Jhye Richardson was the fourth most expensive player sold in the 2021 IPL auction after the Punjab Kings acquired him for a whopping price of INR 14 cr. He featured in only 3 IPL 2021 games and picked 3 scalps averaging 39 besides scoring 15 runs in an innings. The Australian pacer may be targeted by the Punjab Kings again in IPL Auction 2023.

Unfortunately, the pacer’s performance was found to be very inferior and was unavailable for the second leg of IPL 2021. Perhaps even for IPL 2022, Jhye Richardson decided to exclude himself possibly because of his last minor leg issue.  He may be targeted again by Punjab Kings in IPL Auction 2023.

Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye is a winner of the 2018 IPL Purple Cap and was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1 crore and then was retained ahead of the IPL 2021. Australian pacer Andrew Tye has a mixed bag of variations and can confound opposition from all the franchises.

After making his debut in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, Andrew Tye was also part of the Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). The right-arm pacer has 42 IPL wickets to his name from 30 matches averaging 23.31 and he will be keen to add a few more scalps to his IPL wickets tally if targeted by Punjab Kings in IPL Auction 2023.
