Ashish Nehra, the head coach of Gujarat Titans and a former India bowler, claimed that he had no doubts about Hardik Pandya’s leadership abilities from the start and that the all-extensive rounder’s IPL experience made him a great captain for the team in IPL 2022.

In the Titans’ first season with the league, Hardik went on to win the title.

The Gujarat Titans, one of the two debutant teams in IPL 2022, named Hardik as skipper despite the fact that the all-rounder had not played competitive cricket for more than 6 months before the season.

Hardik, on the other hand, proved the doubters wrong by guiding Gujarat to victory. Hardik also batted higher up in the middle order, amassing 487 runs and taking 8 wickets in 15 matches despite injury worries.

Hardik continued to lead India in T20Is following the triumph of IPL 2022, and the BCCI’s top brass is now considering him as a possible replacement for Rohit Sharma in white-ball forms.

Ashish Nehra said a lot has been spoken about Hardik Pandya’s captaincy after Gujarat Titans lifted the IPL 2022 trophy in their first-ever season in the tournament but that he always know about the potential that the Baroda star possessed as a leader.

“In perspective, we’re talking after winning, but it’s not about winning or losing. If you ask me as a coach, you can look at a player and determine what he is thinking, and Hardik Pandya has a really positive vibe. I never had the impression he was a new captain who didn’t know what to do,” Ashish Nehra told Jio Cinema.

“He’s a steady guy, a confident guy. He knows how to operate in IPL. He may not have had a lot of captaincy experience, but he has played in the IPL. He was a key member of the Mumbai Indians, who won numerous titles. He was present. There was an abundance of IPL experience,” Ashish Nehra added.

Gujarat Titans will seek to repeat their successes from the 2022 season, having retained the team’s core.
