Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opening batter Jason Roy has been handed 10 percent of his match fee after breaching the IPL code of conduct during a 21-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The Nitish Rana-led team registered the win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following four consecutive losses.
Jason Roy scored a blistering half-century of 56 runs off 29 balls with the help of four boundaries and five sixes in his innings. The right-handed batter was dismissed by Vijaykumar Vysakh in the 10th over of the innings. The 32-year-old seemed to be angry and hit one of the dislodged bails with the bat after being dismissed.
The IPL released a short statement on their official website, stating that Jason Roya admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
“Kolkata Knight Riders batter Jason Roy has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru,” the statement read.
“Mr. Roy admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further added.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
The KKR skipper praised Jason Roy’s knock during the post-match presentation, adding that the players showed character despite losing four games in a row.
“In the last 3-4 matches I have been saying at the toss that if we play collectively as a team the result will come in our favor. The way Jason Roy is batting in the last three games and I’d like to say the environment in the dressing room, you need a lot of character after the last few performances,” Nitish Rana said.
The Kolkata-based franchise moved to seventh place in the 10-team points table following the victory against the RCB. The two-time IPL champions will take on the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next game at Eden Gardens on Saturday, April 29.
