Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved a convincing 23-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League 2023.

Playing away from their home ground, Sunrisers had a brilliant start to the game as Harry Brook hit the first century of the tournament, with 12 fours and 3 sixes, and Aiden Markram scored 50 runs. Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen also played well, helping Sunrisers to post a total of 228 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders started their chase with hopes high after their previous win. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Marco Jansen gave early blows to KKR, leaving them with only 7 wickets within the power play.

Nitish Rana and Narayan Jagadeesan then had a good partnership of 62 runs, but Mayank Markande dismissed Jagadeesan and then Andre Russell, bringing Sunrisers back into the game. Rana and Rinku Singh also contributed with a partnership of 59 runs, but T Natarajan dismissed Rana, and SRH’s bowlers held their nerves to secure the win with 23 runs.

Sunrisers skipper Aiden Markram was elated with his team’s performance following the win over the Knight Riders. Aiden Markram lauded his bowlers for a brilliant showing as they managed to hold their nerves against Kolkata’s firepower guiding their team to the win.

Aiden Markram also lavished praise on the Player of the Match Harry Brook who put on amazing display with the bat to guide this team to a massive total on the board.

“Feels good winning away from home. Was always going to be a tight game. With their firepower we knew the total wasn’t safe. Our bowlers showed character. I was fortunate that we got off to a great start. Makes life easier.”

“We bat quite deep so you get the freedom. We all know Harry – his ability we have seen. Giving a player like that the time to face a lot of balls. He’s Mr. Reliable for sure (Bhuvi). Certainly helps the dressing room. It’s a great bunch of guys. It’s cricket at the end of the day, always going to teach you a lesson.”

The points table saw significant changes after the match between Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers and Knight Riders, as the former climbed to the 7th position with their win over the latter. As a result, RCB and MI moved down one spot each. Despite their loss, Knight Riders maintained their 4th spot on the table due to their better net run rate.
