The Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting said that the team would miss their captain Rishabh Pant in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Ricky Ponting said that the team management is looking to involve Rishabh Pant this season in any possible way, such as by having him in the dugout or dressing room.

The young wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the tournament due to injuries that he sustained in a car accident in December last year. Pant was named captain in the IPL 2021 and guided the team to first place in the points table. However, the Capitals failed to advance to the final for the second consecutive time after losing in the Qualifiers.

We Are Hoping To Get Him Involved This Season – Ricky Ponting

Ahead of the start of the season, Ricky Ponting praised David Warner and said that he has proven his leadership capabilities in the past in the IPL.

“I have spoken to Rishabh a bit. We are hoping to get him involved this season. I’d love to have him at all our home games. Having him in our dugout or our change room will be very special. However, David Warner will do a great job. He has been a successful franchise cricket captain in the past. He’s excited to lead the team as well,” Ricky Ponting said.

More Travelling Makes The Tournament More Exciting – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting expressed excitement about the IPL schedule as it is returning to a regular home-and-away format for the first time since the pandemic. The Australian legend said that the players will be able to play in different venues and in front of different fans.

“It’ll be harder on the players with much more travel in this IPL. But this is part and parcel of franchise cricket. I think more travelling makes the tournament more exciting. We’ll get to play in a lot of different venues and in front of many different groups of fans,” he added.

The Capitals will take on the Lucknow Super Giants in their first game of the season at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, April 1.
