Punjab Kings (PBKS) interim skipper Sam Curran won the toss & elected to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG got off to a decent start as they scored 49 runs in the power-play overs for the loss of 1 wicket. LSG were in a spot of bother at 62-2 in 8.4 overs. Krunal Pandya along with KL Rahul made sure that there are no more hiccups. Krunal Pandya was seen rotating the strike.

Sam Curran’s decision to open the bowling with Matthew Short worked quite well as he gave away 10 runs in his 2 overs. LSG lost two key wickets of Kyle Mayers & Deepak Hooda as the likes of Harpreet Brar & Sikandar Raza troubled the batters.

This was the new surface used at Lucknow as there was uneven bounce as both pacers & spinners were getting assistance. LSG would be aiming to post a score in excess of 170 which would give them a psychological advantage while defending.

Shahrukh Khan’s brilliance at the boundary

At the end of 14 overs, LSG’s score was 108-2. Kagiso Rabada was bowling the 15th over, on the 2nd delivery Rabada bowled a short delivery and cramped Krunal Pandya for the room as he went for a boundary over deep mid-wicket but Shahrukh Khan made sure the ball doesn’t go beyond the rope as he took the catch, threw the ball away from the boundary and completed a stunning catch. Krunal Pandya was dismissed on 18 runs in 17 balls as he smashed 2 fours.

Before the dismissal, Krunal Pandya had played a pull shot and had got a top edge on the first delivery, and scored 2 runs. Kagiso Rabada now has 2 scalps to his name and has foxed the batters with his variations. At that time LSG’s score was 110-3 in 14.2 overs.

Chance for PBKS

The partnership between Krunal Pandya and KL Rahul was looking threatening. Skipper KL Rahul now has to make sure that he stays till the end of the innings and makes the most of his half-century. It would be quite tough for the new batter to go berserk from ball 1.

PBKS skipper Sam Curran would be considering bringing him into the attack for an over. Arshdeep Singh’s remaining two overs would be quite pivotal. PBKS would be aware of the fact that Nicholas Pooran can inflict a lot of damage as his wicket would be decisive.
